The Facts

There are loads of chemicals in tobacco smoke.
A lot of them are in there naturally – but there are some that are also added for things like “flavor” and “to kick up the addiction level a bit”.
There are over 4000 chemicals in tobacco smoke! Here’s a few:

Arsenic - a poisonous chemical that is used especially to kill insects and weeds

Cyanide - a very poisonous chemical often used in jewelry-making, as insecticides for fumigating ships, killing ants and rats

Ammonia - a colorless gas or liquid that has a strong smell and taste and that is used especially in cleaning products.

Polonium 210 - a highly radioactive and chemically toxic element, used in nuclear physics and on brushes for dust removal from photographic film.

Butane - a type of gas that is used in a liquid form as a fuel usually for cooking, heating, and lighters

Methane - a colorless gas that has no smell and that can be burned for fuel

Cadmium - a bluish-white metal that is used especially in protective coatings and in batteries

Formaldehyde - a chemical that is used to prevent decay in the dead bodies of people and animals

And more - And More?  What more could there be??

There are over 200 poisons (a substance that can cause people or animals to die or to become very sick if it gets into their bodies) and 69 carcinogens (a substance that can cause cancer) in tobacco.
